Isatis tinctoria, also known as the Isatis grass Daqing, Big Blue, large indigo, Daqing, etc., is a cruciferous plant.Annual or
biennial herb; long oval-shaped oval basal leaves large, with a handle; long oval-shaped lanceolate cauline leaves, the base of the Arrow, half amplexicaul, entire or serrulate obvious; summer yellow flowers, racemes, synthesis of branches panicles; flat oblong pod, the edge of the wing-shaped, mucronate; a seed.Stems, leaves and blue dye; can be medicine, called Radix.

 

Radix Isatidis (Banlangen in Chinese), as the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is a kind of dried root of the plant Isatidis indigotica Fort (family Cruciferae), and is officially listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It is mainly distributed in Hebei,JiangXi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui and Gansu provinces in China.
 

As one of the representative antiviral components of Radix Isatidis, Epigoitrin is an important index reflecting the quality of Radix Isatidis and its preparations.It has been used as a medicinal plant for more than 2000 years from Shen Nong Ben Cao-Jing, a famous ancient Chinese medicinal literary and has a widely useful activities including anti-virus, anti-bacterial, anti-endotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and immune regulatory effects.
