Cucurbitacin B is a kind of tetracyclic triterpenoids isolated from plants such as Cucurbitaceae. It is the most abundant member of the cucurbitacin family and has a wide range of pharmacological activities.
Modern research has shown that cucurbitacin B has many biological activities such as protecting liver, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor. In the 1970s and 1980s, cucurbitacin tablets (containing cucurbitacin B and cucurbitacin E) have been developed for the adjuvant treatment of hepatitis and primary liver cancer. Domestic and foreign scholars have systematically studied the anti-tumor effect of cucurbitacin B, and found that cucurbitacin B has a strong inhibitory effect on the activation of STAT3 transcription factor, and its anti-tumor activity is related to the inhibition of STAT3 transcription factor activation. However, many studies have reported that the pharmacological activity of cucurbitacin B is not related to the inhibition of the activation of STAT3 transcription factors. Studies have shown that cucurbitacin B can cause rapid destruction of the actin cytoskeleton, which is closely related to its anti-tumor effect.
