Eucommia ulmoides Oliv is a genus of Eucommia in Eucommiaceae, which contains high content of chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid,also known as 3-car-feoyquinic acid, is a phenylpropanoid synthesized by the intermediate product of pentose phosphate pathway (HMS) during aerobic respiration in plants (Gao Jinming et al., 1999). In recent years, the results showed that the content of chlorogenic acid in Eucommia ulmoides leaves was high, up to 1-5.5 (Zang Youwei, 1989). Chlorogenic acid has a variety of pharmacological effects (Zhang anling et al., 2OO1) such as cholagogic, antibacterial, antiviral, antihypertensive, increasing white blood cells and exciting the central nervous system. It is an important raw material for health products, food, medicine, cosmetics and other industries. Therefore, the production of chlorogenic acid from Eucommia ulmoides leaves has great social and economic benefits.
