Dehydroacetic acid (DA), also known as α, γ - diacetyl acetoacetic acid, is a kind of low toxic and efficient antiseptic and mildew inhibitor. It is white or light yellow crystalline powder in solid state, odorless and tasteless, with melting point of 108-110 ºC and boiling point of 270 ºC. Under acid and alkali conditions, it has certain antibacterial effect, especially the strongest inhibitory effect on mold. It is an effective disinfectant.

Dehydroacetic acid is a new type of chemical preservative, which is an important intermediate for organic synthesis and a good plasticizer. Since it was found to be antibacterial in 1940, it and some of its derivatives have been used as preservatives in many countries. In 1949, the United States approved it as food preservative, and Japan began to use it in 1970s. At present, dehydroacetic acid and some derivatives have been used in the mould proof and anti-corrosion of food, textile, paper, rubber, plastics, archives and arts and crafts, and has received good results

Function

1. It is a broad-spectrum preservative

Dehydroacetic acid is widely used. It can inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeasts, molds, Escherichia coli and other microorganisms that are easy to cause spoilage of food, beverage, pharmaceutical preparations and cosmetics.

2. It can inhibit the reproduction of yeast, mold and bacteria
Dehydroacetic acid has a strong inhibitory effect on yeasts and molds which often cause food spoilage. The effective concentration of dehydroacetic acid is 0.05% ~ 0.1%, and the general dosage is 0.03% ~ 0.05%. Basically, the antibacterial effect of dehydroacetic acid is not affected by the pH value of food, nor by heating.

3. High relative stability
Dehydroacetic acid has no special requirements for the external environment. It can be used at normal temperature, atmospheric pressure and humidity, and has no strict requirements for the production process. Sodium dehydroacetate is quite stable to light and heat except that it is not affected by acid-base conditions.

4. High security
Dehydroacetic acid (DHA) is a safe food preservative approved by FAO and who.
