The mineral form of SnO2 is called cassiterite, and this is the main ore of tin.[2] With many other names (see infobox), this oxide of tin is the most important raw material in tin chemistry. Functions: 

Tin oxide is white, pale yellow or pale gray square, six-party or orthorhombic system powder.Melting point 1630 ºC, boiling point of 1800ºC.At the same time is a kind of excellent transparent conductive material.It was the first commercially available transparent conductive material, in order to improve the conductivity and stability.

 

Applications: 

 

Stannic oxide is used for making tin salts, catalyst, mordant, prepared paint.
New green silver tin oxide electrical contact materials, raw materials. 
Stannic oxide has been used as pigment in the manufacture of glasses, enamels and ceramic glazes.
Tin oxide can be used as a polishing powder, sometimes in mixtures also with lead oxide, for polishing glass, jewelry, marble and silver. Tin(IV) oxide for this use is sometimes called as "putty powder" or "jeweler's putty".
Tin oxide is used in sensors of combustible gases including detectors.
